我又再度上來麻煩各位版友了,真的很不好意思啊…=口=

TOPIC: Meteorite Impact and Dinosaur Extinction

Paragraph 3: The body that impacted Earth at the end of the Cretaceous period
was a meteorite with a mass of more than a trillion tons and a diameter of at
least 10 kilometers. Scientists first identified this impact in 1980 from the
worldwide layer of sediment deposited from the dust cloud that enveloped the
planet after the impact. This sediment layer is enriched in the rare metal
iridium and other elements that are relatively abundant in a meteorite but
very rare in the crust of Earth. Even diluted by the terrestrial material
excavated from the crater, this component of meteorites is easily identified.
By 1990 geologists had located the impact site itself in the Yucat region of
Mexico. The crater, now deeply buried in sediment, was originally about 200
kilometers in diameter.

3. Which of the following can be inferred from paragraph 3 about the location
of the meteorite impact in Mexico?
A。The location of the impact site in Mexico was kept secret by geologists
from 1980 to 1990.
B。It was a well-known fact that the impact had occurred in the Yucat region.
C。Geologists knew that there had been an impact before they knew where it
had occurred.
D The Yucat region was chosen by geologists as the most probable impact site
because of its climate.

正確答案為C,我選了B…想請問為什麼呢?

TOPIC: MINERALS AND PLANTS

Paragraph 6:
Only recently have investigators considered using these plants to clean up
soil and waste sites that have been contaminated by toxic levels of heavy
metals – an environmentally friendly approach known as phytoremediation.
This scenario begins with the planting of hyper accumulating species in the
target area, such as an abandoned mine or an irrigation pond contaminated by
runoff. Toxic minerals would first be absorbed by roots but later relocated
to the stem and leaves. A harvest of the shoots would remove the toxic
compounds off site to be burned or composted to recover the metal for
industrial uses. After several years of cultivation and harvest, the site
would be restored at a cost much lower than the price of excavation and
reburial, the standard practice for remediation of contaminated soils.
For examples, in field trials, the plant alpine pennycress removed zinc and
cadmium from soils near a zinc smelter, and Indian mustard, native to
Pakistan and India, has been effective in reducing levels of selenium salts
by 50 percent in contaminated soils.

11. It can be inferred from Paragraph6 that compared with standard practices
for remediation of contaminated soils, phytoremediation
A。does not allow for the use of the removed minerals for industrial purposes.
B。can be faster to implement
C。is equally friendly to the environment
D。is less suitable for soils that need to be used within a short period of
time.
