: 後面的which 修飾前面的受詞 也就是remains
: 這個修飾語本來應該是the soil serves for the remains as habitat
: 意思就是說，土壤做為remains的棲息地
: 現在remains用which代，被提到前面去，文法上for也要跟著提到前面去
: 就變成書上這個句子了

這應該是以下兩個句子的合併：
"The organic matter in the earth's soil comes from the remains of
the plants and animals."
"The soils serves as habitat for plants and animals."

所以這裡的which指的是the plants and animals（土壤作為植物和動物的棲息地）

另一種informal的寫法是把for放到最後，變成
The organic matter in the earth's soil comes from the remains of
the plants and animals which the soil serves as habitat for.
但托福一定為formal的形式，故需將for提至which前面。

最近剛好念到這部分的文法，跟前面意見有一點不太一樣，有錯請指教。
