如果你要原句的話為，不過我覺得這樣的原句有點傻:

A single pebble was not found that ...

另外一種解釋會比較好，因為not為副詞，故可以修飾一整句

Not (a single pebble was found) that...

not 用來否定(a single pebble was found): 一個pebble的發現都沒有

adv.不是用來修飾名詞，adj.才是用來修飾名詞a single pebble

not不是adj是adv.

Not a single pebble was found代表the pebbles came

from the nearby continent.


我強烈建議你把詞性搞懂，不然你會把很簡單的東西誤解了

no才有adj.
