以下所列公式適用於球面近視鏡片
若屬於非球面鏡片..請用夾擊法..
厚度: 低折射率球面鏡片 > 低折射率非球面鏡片 > 高折射率球面鏡片

計算公式
(邊緣到鏡片光學中心的距離)^2
鏡片邊緣厚度 = 中心厚度 + 度數 * ---------------------------------
2*(折射率 - 1)

更準確的計算公式
(邊緣到鏡片光學中心的距離)^2
鏡片邊緣厚度 = 中心厚度 + 修正項*度數 * ---------------------------------
2*(折射率 - 1)
邊緣到鏡片光學中心的距離 3mm左右(適合一般男性)
球面Rx鏡片總屈光度 修正項
0.00 ~ -2.00D 1.03
-2.25 ~ -6.00D 1.06
-6.25 ~ -7.00D 1.08
-7.25 ~-12.00D 1.12

計算範例:
A近視1000度..折射率1.6..邊緣到鏡片光學中心距離 3cm
則鏡片邊緣厚度 = 0.001 + 1.12 * 10 * 0.03^2 / 2*(1.6-1)
= 0.0094 (m)
= 9.4 (mm)

若a為鏡片中心厚度..t為鏡片邊緣厚度..s為光學中心離水平面的距離..
則 t = a + (s2-s1) ..................................................(1)

若R為曲率半徑..h為邊緣到光學中心距離..s為光學中心離水平面的距離..
各長度的幾何關係為
R^2 = h^2 + (R-s)^2
解上式得
s = R–R*[1 - (h/R)^2]^(1/2)
= R–R*[1–(1/2)*(h/R)^2–(1/8)*(h/R)^4–(1/16)*(h/R)^6 - ……]
= (1/2)*(h^2/R)*[1 + (1/4)*(h/R)^2 + (1/8)*(h/R)^4 + …… ]
≒ (1/2)*(h^2/R) #我們稍後會提到這個近似的準確度
s2 - s1 = (1/2)*(h^2/R2) - (1/2)*(h^2/R1)
= (1/2)*(h^2)*[(1/R1) - (1/R2)] .........................(2)
由球面薄透鏡公式
設鏡片折射率為n..曲率半徑為R..D為透鏡屈光度..
(n-1)/R1 + (1-n)/R2 = D
(n-1)[(1/R1) - (1/R2)] = D
[(1/R1) - (1/R2)] = D/(n-1) .......................................(3)
由(1)(2)(3)得
t = a + (1/2)*(h^2)*[D/(n-1)] ...................................得證

討論公式準確度
泰勒展開式的2階項 k2 = (1/4)*(h/R)^2 = (1/4)*[h*D/(n-1)]^2
泰勒展開式的4階項 k4 = (1/8)*(h/R)^4 = 2*k2^2
..................................
由於其泰勒展開式僅存在偶數階項..
每一階係數之分母增加速度大於分子增加速度..
所以高階項的影響會越來越小..
