萬丹迎媽祖的可能與不可能 - 屏東

雖然我不是萬丹人,但我還是不免要說說話。我知道一般大眾對於廟會的印象不外乎
吵鬧、髒亂跟黑道。從以前到現在我都一直為這些辯護,因為我覺得對於台灣廟會而言,
這樣的批評是不公平的。在這篇我口氣實在好不下來,原因是過往這些批評都在都市人口
中聽到,只不過在屏東板都這樣了,我想廟會的根也快斷了。
我首先對於許多人對於廟會參予人員素質來反駁,這是一個歷史的結構性問題。我先
舉日治時代好了,一般人都說日本人怎麼燒神像毀廟,好像日本人好壞。但回顧日治時代
,除了太平洋戰爭,日本人從未禁止過廟會。他針對乩童,八家將是直到西來庵事件後才
特別注意,但也沒特別禁止。反倒日本人從沒瞧不起台灣廟會,反倒拿當時當時廟會最流
行的藝閣表演給後來的昭和天皇看。你看蔣介石、蔣經國哪時會在國慶表演拿出這些他們
認為不入流的東西。楊逵在日治時代的小說還描寫主角要多優秀才可以爭取扮演八家將,
霧峰林家少爺還自己去扮演陣頭。在國民黨來台才把這些民間信仰打成迷信,不入流。有
了這樣的教育,家長不願讓子弟投入廟會。這才造成後來民國八零年代嚴重的中輟生問題
,因為信仰早就有斷層了。我是東港人,東港有所謂世襲的習俗,所以在這傳承保存很完
整。一樣扛神轎,我是轎班,講難聽點,那些批評廟會水準低的人可能自己的社會地位還
不如他們呢。我認識的東港轎班就有教授、銀行經理,現任的台灣中小企業協會理事長、
警察、公務員、碩士生一堆。萬丹這次迎媽祖我也過去看,事實上聘請牛鬼神蛇轎班的廟
宇並不多,歐吉桑倒很多。我真的看不出來哪裡不入流,假如你真的看過台北廟會的話,
萬丹算很傳統了。再講更難聽,像我老師是法國博士,一樣愛抽黃長,大家沒意見。如果
他在廟會抽黃長,可能就是人口中的不入流。一樣抽菸,顯現出來就是對於民間信仰的歧
視。(我另個老師也是法國拿博士回來的,偶爾也吃檳榔,你敢說他不不入流嗎?)
大家愛說日本廟會多好,但有沒有想過,人家日本政府從頭到尾都沒教育他們的人民
神道教是落伍迷信的。反倒台灣人愛去日本廟會就是潮,我們就是沒水準。這是為什麼呢?
如果連自己的文化都瞧不起,我也沒什麼好說了。
我知道廟會確實會吵到許多人,這也不可迴避。但除了上網抱怨,有做過更實際的事
嗎?東港廟會比率絕對比萬丹高,但你何曾看過東港人上來抱怨迎王有很吵嗎?除了東港
人對此活動認同度高,另一個也是東港人敢抱怨。所以東隆宮後來在迎王期間,除了七角
頭入廟會放個三管高空煙火外,以外其他廟宇一律不放鞭炮。所以你會看到來拜廟的廟宇
自備鞭炮,但你放太過火還是一堆東港鄉民會去東隆宮抱怨。但東港人並未因噪音否定整
個祭典,甚至這個祭典還成為大家爭取的對象。像東港的農區:大潭跟下部當初不肯讓垃
圾掩埋場設置在他們那,最後開出的條件就是每科迎王隊伍一定會遶境那,這兩個農村立
刻答應。萬丹媽祖廟也是萬丹鄉公廟,只要你敢抱怨,他們不可能全無反應的。東港人相
信溫王爺,但對東隆宮的抱怨也沒少過,但東港人從沒有認為東港迎王是不入流,沒水準
的。反倒迎王隊伍漏掉哪些地方,當地居民就押著里長出去協調了。
至於為什麼要連續48小時的的遶境?就參與廟宇而言,多一天就多一天花費。我相信
這是妥協的結果。其實廟會不是全無反應,只是他們的改革在批評者眼中永遠是不會被看
見的。跟萬丹同時間舉行的屏東天后宮遶境,我這次還看到他們在隊伍最後還安排一堆人
掃除製造的垃圾。只是每當面對這些對於廟會的批評,他們的努力卻總是很少被看見。日
本可以拿廟會來吸引人絕不是日本人比較厲害,而是他們從未瞧不起自己。
