兩題TOEFL iTP的文法題不懂... - 英檢

想要問兩題做模擬考時不懂的文法改錯題，因為沒有詳解所以特來請教版上神人們...
1. Archaeologists (A)"have established" that art (B)"has" probably existed as (C)"long human" culture (D)"has".
2. Passenger pigeons (A)"had become" rare by the end of the 19th century, (B)"and" (C)"soon" after (D)"becoming" extinct.
答案分別為 C / D
讓我不解的是，第一題要怎麼樣改才會對，文意看起來像是"考古學家們已經認為藝術可能存在比人類擁有文化來的早"。
第二題真的就沒有頭緒了，是否是and對等連接詞必須把D選項改成had become才對，但這樣文意不是很怪嗎...
不知道是否可以在此詢問iTP的文法題，若冒犯版規會自D...謝謝
