【破解 托福閱讀 真假語氣陷阱題】

大家好，我是字神帝國的康老師，
今天想和大伙分享托福閱讀的真假語氣陷阱題。

這種陷阱其實原本是在GRE&GMAT閱讀中考到的，
但是，現在也出在托福TPO中。
所以，我們一定要學會突破這難題。

首先，我們來說明這種真假題目的設計。

1. 假 ：利用原文提供假設性的句子。

2. 真 ：錯誤選項答案寫成真實語氣的句子。

就因為只差在口氣的不同，所以同學很容易誤假為真啊。誤選了錯誤選項。

來用TPO真題當範例：
TRANSITION TO SOUND IN FILM (TPO12-2)
原文第四段：
These critics were making a common assumption—that the technological
inadequacies of earlier efforts (poor synchronization, weak sound
amplification, fragile sound recordings) would invariably occur again.
10. According to paragraph 4, which of the following is true about the
technical problems of early sound films?
〇 Sound films in the 1920s were unable to solve the technical flaws found in
sound films before the First World War.
〇 Critics assumed that it would be impossible to overcome the technical
difficulties experienced with earlier sound films.
解題分析：
1.依題目關鍵字technical problems of early sound films，我們定位到第四段的這句
的technological inadequacies。本句主要說明技術的不完善情況還是會再次發生的。
2.注意原文出現一個超重要字：assumption。所以要記得這句是假設語氣，並不是事實
3.再看一下題目問的是下列何者為TRUE：
所以第一個選項：雖然與原文所說的很接近，但小心：它用的是實：過去事實were。
但原文只是過去時作的假設，並非過去的事實，所以不能選。
4.所以要選第二個選項：用了assumed 假設，對應原文的虛假語氣assumption，所以正
確。

我們再來看範例2：

WHICH HAND DID THEY USE ? (TPO12-1)
One also has to make the assumption that hands were stenciled palm downward—
a left hand stenciled palm upward might of course look as if it were a right
hand.

5. All of the following are mentioned in paragraphs 1 and 2 as evidence of
right-handedness in art and artists EXCEPT

〇 the fact that a left hand stenciled palm upward might look like a right
hand


解題分析：
1.我們再次注意到了原文出現一個超重要字：assumption。
2.所以同學會發現，題目的字眼與原文的定位句幾乎一致，
3.但只差在選項是事實(fact)，但原文說的是假設assumption，所以與原文有衝突，而
本題是EXCEPT題，所以就正解就是這答案了。

所以最後，經這兩題的練習，我們可以總結出破解ETS設計這樣真假語氣陷阱題的方法。

只要在原文讀到假設語氣字眼：assume, assumption, presume, if 等

就要記得原文這句是：假

等一下選項出現：真 (fact，過去或現在簡單式等)

就不能選，不能誤假為真。
