Limbo的概念完全不對

他根本不是甚麼佛教中的劫

以後要比教兩種文化或宗教時

可能要仔細想想他的脈絡。

Limbo中文翻作靈薄獄

是中世紀天主教在思考天堂和地獄時所想出來的解決之道

他們在思考:在基督降生之前的聖人和早夭未受洗嬰兒死後到底到哪去了

許多的哲學家如蘇格拉底或柏拉圖

他們沒有聽過福音，也未成為基督徒

或是從來沒有犯過任何罪的嬰兒

在受洗前可能就夭折了

他們唯一的罪(從宗教的觀點來看)只有原罪。

這兩種人總不能要他們下地獄

所以說他們認為有一個地方叫做Limbo

專門安置這些未曾聽到福音的人

在但丁的神曲中他的第一部Inferno(煉獄)

其中第一外層就是所謂的Limbo

但丁形容他看到許多的希臘、羅馬時期的哲學家，文學家

(但丁的導師維吉爾Virgil也是從這邊來的)

但丁形容他們待在草坪上討論哲學，而草坪異常的明亮

(抱歉我身邊沒有書，只能憑記憶描述)

而他們待在這邊的目的，就是為了等待救贖

另外，catharsis這個字也必須從字的脈絡談起

他來自於亞里斯多德的《詩學》

詩學中提到"悲劇"擁有"淨化"的作用

M. H. Abrams 編的 "A Glossary of Literary Term" 描述tragedy時說

"tragedy...in the medium of poetic language and in the manner of dramatic

rather than of narrative presentation, involving 'incidents arousing pity

and fear, wherewith to accomplish the catharsis of such emotion.'"

簡言之即是"詩的語言"還有"戲劇表現"引起了觀眾的恐懼和同情心(pity and fear)

而完成了所謂的catharsis

Abrams繼續提到:

悲劇中那些受難或困頓的再現(tragic representation of suffering and defeat)

對觀眾來說的確不會感到沮喪，而是情感上的宣洩，甚至狂喜

(feeling not depreesed, but relieved, or even exalted)




圖騰(Totem)的意思也不是我們所想的那樣

他的定義是對的，因為我的神話學老師是這樣說沒錯

wiki:

"A totem is a stipulated ancestor of a group of
people, such as a family, clan, group, lineage,
or tribe.

Totems support larger groups than the individual
person. In kinship and descent, if the apical
ancestor of a clan is nonhuman, it is called a
totem. Normally this belief is accompanied by a
totemic myth."


圖騰最簡單的說法是"部族裡去世的祖先們(或祖靈們)"

因此我們稱排灣族的百步蛇為"圖騰"

因為相傳百步蛇是排灣族的"祖先"

所以圖騰不是我們以為的只要是部落中的圖案都叫圖騰

圖騰具有相當神聖的意義








總而言之，這些字都具有文化背景或是知識背景

在認識這些字時，最好的辦法是知道一下他的脈絡和內涵

要不然在寫作時，突然用了這個字，上下文意不連貫，那就糗了


對了，我的老師說，Inception的導演是英國的UCL英文系畢業的

所以他的很多場景都在他的母校拍攝
