Read the passage.
There are any people on both sides of the fence in regards to the pros and
cons of iron fertilization. Iron fertilization is the intentional introduction
of iron to the upper ocean to cause a phytoplankton bloom, which is a large,
temporary colony of phytoplankton (small, free-floating aquatic plants) in the
sea. These phytoplankton are important in removing carbon dioxide from the
atmosphere. The goal is to increase marine biological productivity which is in
decline as a result of climate change.
