下面回答同學的問題,順便補上幾個實際例子。
回答同學的提問,要確定自己有沒有回答到關鍵、用到關鍵字,
必須對題目有很強的分析能力,找出題目的重點,再針對理由作鋪陳,
我是英文即席演講訓練的出身,英文即席演講就需要這些能力,
我可以從個人經驗說,要做到這點,
只有不斷地練習。
必須不斷練習一看到題目、就能判別出題目問的重點、再針對重點提出論點,
而論點必須環環相扣,最後扣回主題。
我們以這次10/13 的考題為例好了(17965 篇分享的小馬機經第六套命中!),
口說第二題大概是這樣的,
Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?
The most important characteristic of a good school is its good textbooks.
如果這是題目原文,你必須很快判別出題目在問的是
"is good textbooks the most important characteristic,
to decide if a school is a good school?"
if yes, why? if no, why not? what is? why?
所以一個好的答案,應該要能提出解釋:
yes,
1) because textbooks, unlike professors, are stable possessions of a school,
2) and the constant knowledge good textbooks provide is the most valuable asset
of a good school.
前一句,我解釋了textbooks 的重要性,
然而這樣還不夠,許多同學就停在這邊,
可能他們說的是textbooks provide good information,
或是textbooks are good material for teaching,
兩者都可以,重要的是接下來要提出你的論點和題目之間的關係:
後一句裡,我定義了what makes a good school:
it is the "constant knowledge that good textbooks provide"
定義了good school 之後,論點才算是完整了,
才和題目產生了連結。
以前面兩個同學的論點為例:
在textbooks provide good information 之後,你就得告訴我們:
and good information source is crucial in deciding whether a school is good.
在textbooks are good material for teaching 之後,你得接著說:
and good teaching quality is most essential to a good school.
你才真的說完了這兩個論點。
相反的,以我的例子作修改,如果你的答案偏重個人經驗,而沒有完整敘述論點,
看起來就會像這樣:
Yes,
because textbooks are stable possessions of a school.
take my school for example, we have a lot of good textbooks, our library is
always expanding, and students can read a lot of good books in there.
我盡量修飾得好一些,可同學應該看得出來,這個論點沒有講完。
題目是:「好的教科書是決定好學校與否的關鍵嗎?」
論點只提到了書是學校的資產,例子提到了學生多讀書,但多讀點書就代表是好學校嗎?
我這麼說,是想讓同學理解:沒有「正確的」論點,全看你怎麼說,
只要你說「好書的知識是一所好學校最重要的資產」,上述的例子就會成立。
any point would score, as long as it makes sense.
我們總結一下:每個論點必須講完!
在想的時候,你必須很清楚這個論點和題目的連結,
在講的時候,你則必須清楚要怎麼回到題目。
要做到這點,你只能不斷練習。
所有的英文即席演講者的反應、英文辯論員的思考,都是這樣練出來的。
前面分享過的機經整理的答案,可以幫助同學做這個練習。
同學不妨自己想幾個論點,試著看看自己能不能完整的解釋這個論點(也就是自圓其說)
再參考我整理的機經答案。
幾次下來,應該可以提升英文的邏輯思考能力。
如果你沒有時間,或不想這樣練習,
你只能請有這種能力的人聽聽你的答案,告訴你,
你的答案makes sense or not.
這個人也必須能夠告訴你,你的論點怎麼講,才會更make sense。
一樣,這是為什麼我們說,
口說一二題一定要得到feedback,而且是好的feedback的原因。
