感想
老實說我怎麼想也想不到我有可以發心得文的一天
因為從一開始準備要去參加所謂的名校展，到去找代辦請他幫預測落點
這間學校從來就不在我的安全名單裡面，同時代辦也勸我說申請 Manchester 有困難
介紹我其他一些分數比較低的學校，但根據我自己的研究，我自己做了清單同時
也鎖定了這些學校(感謝我姊的一句話：想念就投，有投有機會，沒投沒機會)
而且申請這間學校的插曲真是非常經典
為了上 IME 我幾乎把 MBS 的網站都翻到爛掉
課程簡述的 MP3 我聽了，課程翻到會背
Admission office 的文件看到比代辦還清楚...
問了兩個曾經念過這個課程的台灣人，到 hellouk 找資料
甚至晚上念書唸到睡不著跑去翻 Accmondation website 幻想一下自己上了要去住哪間..

其詳細過程請容我一一道來：
參加英國名校展的時候我發現每個學校代表都有一個共同點：
他們會：
1. 問你GPA
2. 問你學校
3. 看你的成績單
他們不一定會：
1. 看你的 SOP
2. 看你的 CV
3. 詳細了解你這個人

如果你的 GPA 不高可能會直接跟你說我們只看前 20% 的學生
如果你的學校不是在所謂的 "high ranking and repute" 也有可能被打槍

但學校代表的話不見得就代表學校的 Admission tutor
學校代表是幫找學校的 ideal student...
當然不是所有人都會是 ideal student，所以對其他人來說被打槍是正常的...

我體驗最深的就是 St Andrews
學校代表一開始就在找我的成績單(但是我把它藏在文件的最後面...)
一開始看到我有發過 paper
有很棒的經歷，他邊看邊點頭，同時跟我說在 St Andrews 有 Academic writing
的經驗加分很大因為他們很重寫作 blah blah blah...
然後指指做在旁邊的台灣同學，跟我說等等你可以跟他聊一下 St Andrews 歐 ^_^
最後：在我跟你介紹學校之前我們來看一下你的成績單
在看到我的成績單之後他把成績單轉過來面向我指著分數問說：
『Is this your final score？』
我回：『Yes, this is my GPA。』
然後一如往常的跟我說 St Andrews 是很好的學校，每年有很多學生申請
我們只收前 20% 的學生 blah blah blah....最後不忘安慰我一下...
不過我自己心裡已經有準備了所以就微笑的跟他說：
『Please contact me if any chance。』
就這樣快速結束第一次跟學校代表見面的經驗。

Nottingham 代表也差不多，一見面就問：『你有什麼資料給我看呢？』
就跟 St Andrews 一樣，從頭開始介紹自己，盡量點出來自己的優勢
同樣的也是敗筆在 GPA，代表也是說一樣的話：
『Nottingham 是很好的學校，每年有很多學生申請
我們只收前 20% 的學生 blah blah blah....』

不過上述這幾家我其實都還是有投就是了，因為『有投有機會』
而且我認為我可以跟前 20% 的學生一拼

我可以跟大家分享一個我申請 Manchester 時的一些小插曲，在最近幾天(2010/01/28)
我的 gmail 信箱跑出一封信 title 是 Manchester Business School
一看寄信人是之前到參加英國名校展聊過的 Manchester 學校代表
信的內容是：
> Dear Kevin
>
> Thank you for taking the time to come and meet me in Taipei.
> I said that I would let you know about eligibility for
> Manchester Business School courses and
> I have to advise you that unfortunately,
> your average score is too low to be considered for our courses.
>
> Good luck with your future studies.
>
> Regards.

然後副本寄給 U開頭代辦，我看了之後非常的不服氣
看到標黃色那行後我的理智就斷線了，在惱羞的情況下
我回了一封很長的信解釋為什麼我的 GPA 不高
而我在大學有哪些 achievement，我在中研院做了哪些研究
我在我家的公司做了哪些決策...(基本上就是我的 SOP 精簡版...)
過了一天代表回我的信了：
> Hi Kevin
>
> Thanks for getting back to me.
> As I explained to you, we would not normally consider someone with
> your grades.
(其實根本沒有跟我解釋過，跟其他學校一樣看到 GPA 就把我打發走了...)
> However, the only thing I can suggest is that you apply to
> one of the MSc Information Systems pathways
> (look at our web pages to see which pathway interests you the most) as
> this is the area you have most experience in, and the admissions tutor can
> then assess a full application including all your supporting documents,
> and you would need to give a similar explanation to what you've told me,

而在我跟Marketing officer辯我多適合 IME 課程的同時
我的代辦上傳錯版本 SOP 跟 CV，他上傳到我初版 SOP 其第一段開頭是
My childhood dream is to be a professional tennis player...blah blah blah
(我原本是想靠這句引出我後面很有 teamwork 的概念，其實是大失敗 = =)
是的，這版本給 Admissions tutor 看會被笑掉大牙，因為這版本給我在英國念博班的
的朋友看過後他回我：『你是要申請運動科學的課程嗎？』 Orz

為了這個問題我跟代辦盧很久，因為我知道這間學校有機會上
我不想要在有瑕疵的狀況下把有問題的 SOP/CV 給 comittee 審
反正就這樣盧了很久，後來終於搞定了

而這中間其實我又寫了一封很長的信給另外一個 Admission officer 解釋我有很強的
motivation 同時盧說：
『你看，Marketing officer 說我可以試試，
同時要提供 further explanation 解釋 low GPA，
因為我的 personal statement 已經 866 words 了，
所以希望可以在 SOP 之外給我一個機會或文件解釋 GPA』

然後 Admission officer 回我：
> Hi Kevin,
>
> Your application is with the admissions tutor for a decision,
> I will email you with any further information I have
> Please don't hesitate to contact me if you would like any
> further information or advice
>
> Best Regards

然後就沒有理我了
(不過依我跟英國人打交道的經驗是他不想再看我這麼長的文章了...)
但是我在 To-do list 裡面的 due date 分別是 2/7(student) 跟 2/17(staff)
但 conditional offer 在 2/1 就下來了...

我想要跟大家分享的是
出國其實是一場自我的發現之旅，因為要寫 SOP
SOP 其實是一個好好檢視自己的機會，我很幸運的因為寫 SOP 發現自己真正的優勢
同時把它寫在 SOP 裡面。不諱言的我曾經花了 7500 元請某家代辦幫我寫 SOP
但我一看到他給我的 SOP，我馬上了解這份 SOP 根本沒辦法充分表現出我想要出國
念的熱情，所以我自己又花了一個月去 revise 自己的 SOP，透過不斷的
construct and deconstruct，終於在 1/15 寫出最後版本並且送出去。

當成績不夠好的時候就要以時間換錄取空間...
以工作經驗 cover 不足的地方，機會是給有準備的人的

當真正想去念的時候
你會無所不用其極的就只為了達到你的目的
我想這是非常重要的，因為代辦或是學校代表的態度而放棄你的理念真是太不值得了
這不是癡人說夢，而是想出國的人都必須要好好的檢視自己所必經的一條路
(前提是你要很瞭解你自己在做什麼，你的優勢在哪)
