各位好，我是謝忠理。

看到兩位老師在討論TPO 4 中某重聽題答案，好奇之下找了題目聽了
一遍，節錄原稿並附上翻譯，說明一下我對這題的看法。

Conversation 1
Narrator：Listen to a conversation between a student and a
librarian.

Librarian：Can I help you?
館員：有什麼能為您服務的？

Student：Yeah, I need to find a review. It's for my English
class. We have to find reviews of the play we are reading.
But they have to be from when the play was first performed,
so I need to know when that was and I suppose I should
start with newspaper reviews and…
學生：是這樣的，我要找個評論。上英文課要用的。我們要找正在念
的一齣劇本的評論。不過要找的是這齣劇最早演出時的評論，所以我
要知道何時首演，我想我應該要從報紙的評論開始找起……

Librarian：Contemporary reviews.
館員：當時評論

Student：Sorry?
學生：不好意思？

Librarian：You want contemporary reviews. What's the name
of the play?
館員：你要的是當時評論。什麼劇？

Student：It's Happy Strangers. It was written in 1962 and
we are supposed to write about its influence on American
theatre and show why it's been so important.
學生：快樂的陌生人。1962 年寫的，老師要我們寫它對於美國戲
劇的影響，同時說明它為何如此重要。

Contemporary reviews (語氣下降)
(A) To ask the man to clarify his request
(B) To state the man's request more precisely
(C) To make sure that she heard the man correctly
(D) To correct a mistake the man has made

-------------------- 解說 ------------------------

從原文看得出來，學生要交報告，老師要求要找「戲劇首演時的劇評
」，所以來到圖書館。館員在詢問之後，知道他要找的東西，因此就
說了"contemporary review"。題目就問為何要講這兩個字。

Contemporary 有兩個意思：「同時代(當時)的」與「現代的」，根據
前後文，這裡指「同時代(當時)的」。

學生在前面已經說明了此評論的特徵，只是他不知道這種評論有個專
業術語，叫做contemporary reivew，所以館員就提醒他，有個專業術
語可以用。

在此過程中，學生要的是 review，而 contemporary review 是
review 的一種，所以學生說的話並沒有錯，只是不夠精確而已。

比方說，我們去買米，跟老闆說「我媽要我來買米，要那種細細長長
，不黏的」。老闆說：「喔，泰國米」。這時候我們沒有說錯話，只
是不曉得這種米有個「泰國米」的名稱而已。但是如果我們說「我媽
要我來買玉米，要那種細細長長，不黏的」，那這時才是說錯話了。

因此，這題答案應該是 (B) To state the man's request more
precisely. (精確說出這個人的要求)。

在解題技術上，我們可以看到答案 (B) 用字與原文間的對應：

1. 答案中的 request 對應到的是學生原來說的 "I need"；
2. 答案中的 more precisely 則是指將 a review 更精確地用
contemporary review 來替代。

至於答案(D)錯誤原因以如前述：學生並沒有說錯任何話，所以館員並
不是在糾正錯誤。
