Summary 題重要注意事項 - 英檢

在此跟大家討論一下
為什麼有些選項看起來是正確的確沒有選呢？
因為題目寫到
selecting the THREE answer that express the most important ideas
in the passage. 請選3個最重要的選項 表達重要的觀念
Some sentences do not belong in the summary
because they express ideas that not presented in the passage or
are minor ideas in the passage.
因此不是這個選項內容一定有錯
而是 可能內容是次要的

至於怎麼分主要與次要呢
線索就在文章的文字中 段落與段落的關係決定了主要與次要

首先看標題
Seventeenth-Century European Economic Growth
與經濟成長有關的文章通常都是這樣寫的
1.重要因素A => A的影響 有可能導致B
2.重要因素B => B的影響 有可能導致C
3.重要因素C

就像是說故事一樣 有先後次序


第一段的主題句就是
Among the key factors behind this growth were
increased agricultural productivity and 農產的增加
an expansion of trade. 貿易的擴大
所以summary之中一定要選到這兩個內容
至於兩者的關係要看內文決定

第二段
Populations cannot grow
[unless the rural economy can produce enough additional
food to feed more people.]
這就是農業的重要性 有足夠食物人口才會成長

第三段
, however, 之後是重點
增加的農產
1.not only the survival of peasants 養家活口
2.but also the accumulation of an agricultural surplus for investment
多餘的可以投資

第四段 多餘的農產facilitated rural industry 使鄉村的工業開始發展

以上農業過渡到工業

第五段
另一個影響是
More extended trading networks also helped
看到also 就要想到之前的因素(農業發展)已經講完了
這一段說的是交易網路的擴大

第六段
The development of banking and other financial services contributed to
銀行與經濟服務 也促使交易網路的擃張
這一段的bill 就是金融系統改進的例子之一

第七段
匯票促進了銀行的發展

第八段
資本額的擴大 促使交易網路更加發展
資金從哪裡來？

1.西班牙由美洲帶來的黃金與白銀
2.投資與借貸(承接上一段 經濟系統的改善讓商人方便 )
政府向銀行借貸. 股份制公司的成立

落落長的故事其實很簡單
有兩個因素
A.農業=>養活鄉村 人口擴張=>多於農產 刺激鄉村工業發展
=> 下一步呢？ 當然要拿去賣

B.交易網路擴大
1.航運的貿易範圍擴大 =>黃金.白銀
2.金融系統的改進: 匯票=>銀行發展 =>借貸.股份制公司
結果就是資本額快速擴大 可以進行更多的投資

1.說produced enough food =>

b. supporting the larger populations

3. 以上兩點 => increased manufacturing

6.有兩個原因促進貿易擴展

跟我們寫的重點一模一樣
而且注意 這3個選項之間有 因果關係
這樣3句組成完整的故事 才是正確的summary
: ○ Increased capital was required for the production of goods, for storage,
: for trade, and for the provision of credit throughout of Europe as well as
: distant markets overseas.
: 我是依據最後一段這句來判斷
: " This capital financed the production of goods, storage,
: trade, and even credit across Europe and overseas"
這句話完全正確 但是 這是在說資本增加的功能與影響

而這篇文章的重點應該是
[什麼因素]造成 經濟成長

應該說明的是資本能快速增加的原因

句子要不要選進summary 除了內容要正確
還必需是本文的重點
必需配合對文章結構與目的的瞭解

另外提醒一下summary的重點不一定是每一段的第一句
1.並非每一段都是重點
2.並非重點都在第一句

還有我想澄清一下什麼是細節

請看一下summary的答題提示中 並沒有說有細節就是錯的選項
而是表示了次要的ideas

我們常常聽到有人說細節不要選有兩個原因 但是要瞭解條件

1.以細節當主詞 . 主要子句
這樣整個句子都在說細節 的選項是錯的 因為少了主概念

匯票.股份有限公司的出現讓更多的資金可以用來建設工廠.投資新產品.
(沒有說明 主題句中提到的 貿易 所以是錯的)

但是並非包含細節的選項就是錯的
比方說
貿易的快速擴張 受到經濟體系改革的影響, 例如.匯票的出現.股份有限公司概念的形成
(後面是細節當作支持的例子 附屬於主要句子
但是因為本句有表現主要概念 所以是對的)

所以就算句子寫成這樣 也是對的
匯票.股份有限公司的發展 等 經濟體系的改革 造成了貿易的快速擴張
