對於第二個問題，我的看法和ian板友和tatamich板友不同，提出來供參考。

我覺得第二個問題沒有這麼複雜。

若還原成比較複雜的句子，應該就是

"...and these slowly moving masses of ice cut out valleys, when they carry
with them huge quantities of eroded rock debris"

因為when+S+V可以改寫成V-ing就好，所以就變成carrying而已。

這裡的they就是前面的these slowly moving masses of ice，也就是前面講的glaciers。

這裡的carry的確是像alonestory板友所說，就是單純的carry something with someone。

為什麼要把with them提前到前面呢？
我沒有學過修辭學，
但我猜應該是因為這邊做受詞的huge quantities of eroded rock debris比較長，
所以就把with them弄到前面這樣比較清楚。
