8/30機經回憶＋心得 - 英檢

Hi all, 我是J2(Jacob),

今天自己也進場考了，來分享一點心得，
最後附上跟另外兩外SK2顧問David, Rosa一起完成的回憶，
盡量完整了，也歡迎同學幫補！(os:好想把單字題全部想起來啊...）

今天作聽力lecture時有注意到螢幕畫面會隨著不同人講話而改變，
不同學生問問題也會把角度轉向該人物，
自己覺得幫助是還滿大的，
以前考的時候似乎就只有一個畫面？
但畢竟上次考試已經是07,08年的事了，
所以這改變可能已經很久了？！還望其他同學幫忙解惑！

一直在想今天自己考會不會遇到真題，
沒想到聽到lecture 4放出來時就覺得很熟悉，
之前有碰到其他同學反應段子雖然一樣，
但題目跟答案選項似乎都有改過，
今天這題倒是沒有這樣的情況，
ETS直接回收再利用毫無修改的重考了，
既然有真題隨後就直接分享題目答案，今天考的也可以對一下答案拉XD

整體來說今天做起來的感覺…
考題都沒有什麼太大變化！這是同學可以放心的地方拉！！
不過順序題倒是又出現了！所以講到順序的地方大家要特別注意，
而且確保筆記是自己看得懂的！

考出來後已看到另外兩位顧問在外面（David已等候多時）
趕快把機經回憶了一下，隨著細節補充越完整就越興奮，
一些難記住的人名像Egyptian pharaoh “Akhenaten”也都google找了回
來，希望以下回憶能對大家有幫助！

8/30回憶（感謝夥伴David在我從考場出來時已打好口說寫作，用了他的版本補充了
一些, 閱讀聽力90%我提供，Rosa也補充了相當多細節！）

[閱讀]
一、Lascaux cave art
一開始就碰到了最常考到的Lascaux, 有附一張圖但完全沒考到。

說因為環境會破壞，只能夠一小群人參觀，（機經班都有提過，大家應該很
熟）連科學家也無法進去研究，增加考古困難。還有有些地方的圖甚至要躺
著看。

有考到畫手指還有很多動物，但很少畫human figure, 所以有一題except
題：哪個主題不會出現在Lascaux painting上就選「a group of people」

後來說到顏色沒有很多，但有很多缽的證據，甚至有個artist用human
skulls當成缽來調色。

二、pictorial weeklies 跟photography

共四段
說到pictorial weeklies的起源
第一段 因為printing的關係促使發展
講到了1840 daguerreotype(銀板照相法, 先修班有講過)的發展, 洗照片很
快速，sentence simplification題考「有了這個技術後，即使不用近距離
也能完成某人的畫作」 還影響到畫作方法, 講到documentary realism
人們開始用照片當成source of painting, 能夠更寫實一點，不像以前是
cartoon風, （這裡有考題，干擾選項照片完全取代繪畫）
畫畫也開始畫motive
最後一段講humor 到後來時代改變大家不喜歡humor, 重視formality,
prestige,
少數還是有humor, 但大部分都是嚴肅話題。


三、Europeans agriculture in New England colonies (類似)
一開始說來到colonies先用先民開墾的空地，不會自己砍樹空出土地，因為
很累。但隨著人口增加必須要自己清出空地，New Englanders的方法是全部
砍光，
但Europeans只砍一半(horizontal, 有題干擾選項是vertically) 讓養分無
法傳達到葉子等等，樹木就會死亡。

人們因為人口壓力忙著種植大量(extensive)作物(而放較少精力在清土地，
大致可以讓作物生長就會繼續種植。

後來說到會先種適合當地殖民地的作物，也會把一些作物緊密的種在一起，
因為會互利，印象中是maize（就是corn）跟wheat, rye, soy? 其中一個會
吸收nitrogen? 之後還是種在Europe常見作物像是pumpkin等等的squash瓜
類。Prose summary有陷阱Europeans完全abandoned自己的作物跟種法。

England當地潮濕適合長grass,

[聽力]
C1 學生說自己得到了幾個interviews的機會，想來問interview skills,
所以要來register workshop (Q1), 但兩個都滿了，最近一次的workshop可
能要等到學生第一次interview後了。但女生還是介紹他一些資源可以用，
網路上有，還有一個人寫了一本書，裡面有三百個他interview的經驗，
（題：這個Ms. Jones?對他的領域非常熟悉）

L1 Biology-biofilms
Biofilms就是在任何潮濕的環境下形成一層薄薄的東西，像是船底只要是潮
濕的地方都有。一開始我們都認為biofilms是algae形成的，但後來發現原
來是bacteria而且是一群的。
有說到plaque牙菌斑也是biofilms
考到一題order題，
應為：free-floating→ attach → reproduce→send signals →最後一個
是已給的答案
說到一群bacteria會形成channel，有兩個功能：第一個傳送養分跟排泄。
第二個可以讓多餘的bacteria attach到別的地方。

最後說到我們都一直著重在biofilms的缺點，又回到稍早的plague,但他其
實也有好處的喔！會clean up pollution!

L2 Archaeology-- cultivation vs. domestication
一開始教授先問什麼是domestication, 圖片中坐在最左邊的黑人學生說是
不再採集果實，會種植，但教授說其實那叫cultivation, 不太一樣,
domestication的話會改變作物的特性，讓收成更順利，舉了wheat當例子。
給了一張圖上面是spikelet下面是stalk（這裡不確定）總之要解釋的是
wild wheat容易掉落，但如果可以domesticate的話，可以控制他掉落時間
或是不易掉落，這樣收成才方便。後來提到Turkey的一個例子，spikelet是
round shape的，to show that it took a longer time to domesticate,
since they found both wild ones and domesticated ones growing
together.
重聽題：recent, I mean 1970s, you may have different perspectives
(考古研究通常需要很長的一段時間)

C2 假conversation – why student’s oil painting cracks?
教授一開始就注意到學生的oil painting有裂痕，開始一步步逼問步驟，學
生說一開始他有用gesso prepare the canvass,（題：gesso功能？
prepare）,教授聽到這邊沒意見，繼續問他下一個步驟，他說因為想要強調
texture, 所以他就撲了think paint, 然後再撲上thin paint, 這時教授就
打斷了一下學生，wait, you know that when the paint dries, it
expands and then contracts right?(類似) 越厚的越需要更多時間，所以
如果又撲上thin paint, 就來不及乾。教授有補充他們叫fat paint and
lean paint. 要營造texture應該要一層一層堆疊，講到讓顏料乾時其實就
是在oxidize.

L3 Art History – Ancient Egyptian art
Old Kingdom到 Akhenaten 時期埃及藝術變化
Old Kingdom conservative, 主要的三個風格：
1. frontalism: 就是儘管其他身體部位朝不同方向，臉朝前，
2. false-transparency: 放在pot裡的ladle依舊畫的非常清楚
3. lack perspective 人物的大小是依照階級的， 階級越高就畫的越高
儘管身體方向看起來多麼不舒服、不自然，表情remain calm

後來Akhenaten統治時就改變了，從畫作中看到Pharaoh show affection to
daughters, 這是以前從來看不到的。

L4 重複真題T4 lecture 4 electromagnetic waves
做的時候就確定題目答案選項都一模一樣沒有改過，
直接分享：
Q1主旨題答案應為Fields produced in one type of radiation, 主要一直
在講electric wave因為跟什麼物質都能反應，但也提到magnetic wave.
Q2問當教授提到X-rays, radio waves, and microwaves時，有何重點？
答：They are all different forms of electromagnetic radiation.
Q3 為何都喜歡探討electric而不討論magnetic field?
Electric fields interact more strongly with most materials.
Q4 教授提到光線穿透三稜鏡時，要表達什麼？
The interaction between the light and atoms in the glass
Q5 講到magnetic field的重點是？
Its strength can be calculated on the basis of the strength of the
electric field.
Q6 重聽題
“Well, I don’t know if we can actually say that, I mean, they’
re measured in different units.”
答：糾正學生剛說的話。

[口說]
1) Why is good manners and being polite important?

2) is good physical ability important for athletes?

3) Have a club fair for students, agree, information is not
accessible, can talk to people with experience

4) Assisted training
Adults can help children learn appropriate behavior in certain
situations
Mary doesn’t have red crayon and then just goes to Paul and grab
his red crayon out of his hands. Professor shows her how to ask
nicely and politely when borrowing things from some one. Later
Mary repeats as the professor did and every time she wants to
borrow something, she asks nicely.

5) Marie cannot have lunch in her half hour break. To bring food
herself or to switch her chemistry class to the evening

6) Animals survive during the dry period at the African savannah,
elephants use body features, during wet periods, trees soak up
moisture; elephants can use tusks to tear away trees and eat trees
to obtain water.
Wildebeest adjust behavior by migrating to north.

Int. writing (命中小範圍第四題）
Reading: 3 ways protect ash trees from being damaged by Emerald
Ash borers
1) ban commercial transportation
Should expand ban to private individual, because ppl would
transport ash tree as firewood when camping, it’s hard to
distinguish, ppl would just bring them to other areas
2) vaccinate the trees, drill holes and put in pesticides
Would need to keep drilling (every two years), else would not
work, if stop the trees would be vulnerable
3) designate trap trees
If waited too long or stopped, would cause the borers to mature
and can attack other trees

Ind. writing
It is important to have rules about the kind of clothing people
should wear to go to work and school
